No. 11 Moravian Drops Pair of Contests at The Spring Games
CLERMONT, Fla. --- The No. 11 Moravian University softball squad fell to Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 5-3, and Swarthmore College, 8-2, at The Spring Games at Legends Way in Clermont, Florida on Tuesday.

How It Happened – Lake Forest
- The Foresters took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning
- The Hounds would load the bases in the bottom of the third but were unable to get a runner home to keep the score at 1-0
- The Blue & Grey eventually scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Senior shortstop Samantha Derickson and freshman designated player Shauna McNamee each had singles before Derickson scored on a wild pitch as junior second baseman Emma Grace Pachkowski drew a walk. Junior pinch runner Madelin Cooper raced home on another wild pitch
- Lake Forest answered with two runs in the top of the fifth frame to move back ahead 3-2
- Moravian tied the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Senior third baseman Sydney Andrews led off with a double and scored the tying run on an RBI single from junior right fielder Kyra Holtje
- The Foresters retook a one-run lead in the top of the sixth, and Lake Forest added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to finish off the scoring
- Senior Sarah DeStefano started in the circle for the Blue & Grey and recorded six strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs
How It Happened – Swarthmore
- The Garnet jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first frame, and Swarthmore added two runs in the bottom of the second for the 3-0 edge
- The Greyhounds got onto the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. Derickson hit a one-out single and moved to third on an error before scoring on an RBI single by McNamee. Holtje, who had reached on a fielder's choice, scored on another error on a ground ball hit by DeStefano
- Swarthmore answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to push the advantage to 5-2, and the Garnet added three more insurance runs in the sixth frame
- Holtje started in the circle, and she had a pair of strikeouts in four innings of action. Senior Natalie Otto tossed the final two innings with one strikeout
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian collected just eight hits in the two games with Derickson going 3-for-7 with two runs
- Andrews had two hits and a run while McNamee added two hits and an RBI
- Holtje contributed a hit and a run while Cooper scored once
