No. 11 Moravian Drops Final Two Contests at The Spring Games in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. --- The No. 11 Moravian University softball squad dropped its final two contests at The Spring Games at Legends Way Ballfields Friday, falling to William Peace (N.C.) University, 8-7, and Carthage (Wisc.) College, 9-3.

How It Happened – William Peace
- The Pacers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning
- The Greyhounds countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 edge. Senior right fielder Sarah DeStefano reached on a single and freshman designated player Shauna McNamee singled. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan added an infield single to load the bases before senior third baseman Sydney Andrews was hit by a pitch to push DeStefano across the plate. Junior first baseman/pitcher Kyra Holtje reached on an error and McNamee raced home
- William Peace answered with two runs in the top of the third to move back ahead 3-2
- The Blue & Grey scored twice in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 advantage. DeStefano hit a one-out single and stole second before scoring on an RBI double off McNamee's bat. Freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros and junior second baseman Emma Grace Pachkowski both hit singles to load the bases before McNamee raced home on a wild pitch
- The Pacers scored four times in the top of the fourth to retake the lead, and William Peace added a run in the top of the fifth for an 8-4 edge
- Moravian scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-5. Senior catcher Marcie Silberman doubled with two outs, and junior Cassandra Farrell came into pinch run. After a wild pitch, Farrell scored when DeStefano reached on an error
- The Hounds added two runs in the bottom of the seventh frame and left the tying run at third base. Sophomore pinch hitter Amelia Noll drew a leadoff walk before Morgan was hit by a pitch. Andrews followed with an RBI single as Noll raced home. Holtje added an RBI single to bring Morgan home while senior shortstop Samantha Derickson had a bunt single to load the bases. DeStefano grounded into a fielder's choice with the tying run being thrown out at the plate
- Senior Natalie Otto started in the circle and recorded three strikeouts in 3.1 innings while Holtje had three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of action
How It Happened – Carthage
- The Greyhounds took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Firebirds. Morgan led off with a single and Andrews walked before Holtje ripped a two-RBI double to left field. Derickson followed with an RBI single and a throwing error on the play allowed Holtje to race home
- Carthage countered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to pull within a run at 3-2
- The Firebirds pushed three runs home in the bottom of the second for a 5-3 lead, and Carthage added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth
- DeStefano made the start in the circle for the Hounds, and she had three strikeouts in 1.1 innings while Andrews made her season pitching debut and added three strikeouts over the final 4.2 innings

- Moravian recorded 2021hits in the two games with Morgan going 3-for-6 with two runs
- Holtje contributed three hits, three RBIs, a double and a run while McNamee posted three hits, two runs and an RBI
- Chloros added three hits including a double while Derickson registered three hits
- Andrews went 2-for-6 with a run and two RBIs while DeStefano had a pair of hits and scored twice
