Moravian Sweeps Susquehanna on the Road
SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad swept host Susquehanna University, 8-4 and 8-0 in five innings, in Landmark Conference action Saturday.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Senior catcher Marcie Silberman led off with a double before junior Madelin Cooper came into pinch run. Senior pitcher Sarah DeStefano connected on an RBI single to score Cooper
- The River Hawks countered with a run in the bottom of the second to knot the score at 1-1
- The Blue & Grey scored five times in the top of the third frame for a 6-1 edge. Freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros led off with a triple, and she raced home on an RBI single from senior third baseman Sydney Andrews. The Greyhounds eventually loaded the bases as junior right fielder Kyra Holtje singled; Silberman reached on a fielder's choice as Andrews was thrown out at the plate and senior shortstop Samantha Derickson reached on an error. DeStefano hit another RBI single to push Holtje across the plate while sophomore first baseman Kaley Hoffman had an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in Silberman. Sophomore designated player Amelia Noll reached on an error as Derickson and DeStefano touched the plate
- Susquehanna answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-3
- Moravian pushed home a run in the top of the fourth for a 7-3 advantage. Chloros led off with a single, and Andrews had a bunt single to become the 44th player in program history to reach 100 career hits. Chloros moved to third on a flyout, and then she scored on a double steal with Andrews taking second
- The Greyhounds scored again in the top of the fifth for an 8-3 lead. Hoffman walked with one out, and she scored on an RBI single from Chloros
- The River Hawks added a run in the bottom of the fifth
- DeStefano made the start in the circle, and she had five strikeouts for her fifth win of the season
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Blue & Grey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chloros reached on an error to start the game, and Holtje walked. After a single from Silberman loaded the bases, Derickson connected on a two-RBI single as Chloros and Holtje raced home
- Moravian added a run in the third frame for a 3-0 edge. Holtje walked and stole second base before DeStefano was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Hoffman hit an RBI infield single as Holtje touched the plate
- The Greyhounds tacked on a run in the top of the fourth to make it 4-0. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan drew a leadoff walk and stole second baseman. Morgan eventually scampered home on a passed ball
- The Hounds pushed home four runs in the top of the fifth for the 8-0 advantage. DeStefano started the inning with a single before junior Cassandra Farrell came into pinch run. Hoffman walked before Noll had an RBI fielder's choice to score Farrell. Chloros connected on a two-RBI single that scored Hoffman and Morgan, who had reentered the game for Noll. Holtje finished off the scoring with an RBI single to score Chloros
- Holtje started in the circle and scattered six hits and no walks to go with one strikeout in her second straight shutout
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian registered 19 hits in the doubleheader with Chloros going 4-for-8 with four runs, three RBIs and a triple
- Holtje was 3-for-6 with three runs and an RBI while DeStefano also went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run
- Morgan had a 2-for-4 day with two runs while Silberman added two hits, a double and a run
- Andrews recorded two hits including her milestone 100th to go with an RBI while Derickson had a hit, a tun and two RBIs
- Noll posted a hit and two RBIs while Hoffman was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI
- Cooper and Farrell each scored once
