No. 11 Greyhounds Split Contests at The Spring Games
BARTOW, Fla. --- The No. 11 Moravian University softball team split a pair of non-conference games at The Spring Games, defeating Kean (N.J.) University, 12-3 in six innings, and falling to Husson (Maine) University, 5-0, Thursday.

How It Happened – Kean
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan drew a walk to start the contest, and she stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an RBI single by senior third baseman Sydney Andrews. Junior first baseman Kyra Holtje connected on an RBI double to bring in Andrews. The Blue & Grey loaded the bases in the inning but were unable to get another run in
- Moravian pushed four runs across the plate in the top of the third frame to stretch the edge to 6-0. Senior catcher Marcie Silberman led off with a single while Holtje hit another double. Freshman designated player Shauna McNamee followed with a two-RBI single as Silberman and Holtje touched the plate. Senior right fielder Sarah DeStefano hit an infield single while junior second baseman Emma Grace Pachkowski finished the inning with a two-RBI single that scored McNamee and DeStefano
- The Cougars got onto the scoreboard with run in the bottom of the fourth inning
- The Hounds answered in the top of the fifth to push the advantage to 7-1. DeStefano singled with two outs, stole second and raced home on an RBI single from freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros
- Kean countered with two runs in the home half of the fifth to cut the score to 7-3
- The Blue & Grey scored five times in the top of the sixth to make the lead 12-3. Andrews reached on a fielder's choice while Silberman singled and Holtje walked to load the bases. Senior shortstop Samantha Derickson followed with a two-RBI ground-rule double as Andrews and Silberman scored. McNamee drew a walk with Holtje racing home on a passed ball. After junior Cassandra Farrell came as a pinch runner for McNamee, Chloros ripped a two-RBI single to chase in Derickson and Farrell
- Senior Natalie Otto made the start in the circle and tossed a complete game with a pair of strikeouts and just one earned run
How It Happened – Husson
- The Eagles scored twice in the top of the first inning for an early lead
- Husson added a run in the second inning and two more in the third frame for a 5-0 edge
- The Greyhounds had three hits and five walks in the contest but were unable to score
- DeStefano started in the circle for the Hounds, and she one strikeout in five innings of action while Holtje tossed the final two innings
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian recorded 17 hits on the day with Chloros going 3-for-5 with three RBIs
- Derickson was 3-for-7 with a double, a run and two RBIs while Silberman and Holtje were both 2-for-5 with two runs with Holtje adding two doubles and an RBI
- Andrews connected two hits two runs and an RBI while DeStefano was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs at the plate
- McNamee contributed a hit, three RBIs, a double and a run while Morgan posted a hit and a run
- Pachkowski recorded a hit and two RBIs while Farrell scored once
