Hounds Post Pair of Shutouts in Sweep at Alvernia
READING, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team posted a pair of shutouts in a non-conference sweep at Alvernia University Thursday, winning 13-0 and 1-0.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan and freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros had one-out singles before senior third baseman Sydney Andrews connected on an RBI single to score Morgan with the first run of the day. Junior right fielder Kyra Holtje followed with an RBI single to chase Chloros home while senior catcher Marcie Silberman ripped a three-run homer to left field to finish the inning. The homer was Silberman's third of the season and 41st of her career
- The Blue & Grey added eight runs in the top of the sixth frame for a 13-0 edge. Freshman designated player Amelia Noll drew a leadoff walk before junior Cassandra Farrell came into pinch run. Morgan connected on a double and Chloros drew a walk to load the bases while Andrews reached on a fielder's choice as Farrell was thrown out at the plate. Holtje followed with a two-RBI single to bring home Morgan and Chloros while Silberman reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. After senior Kendall Szor entered as a pinch runner, senior shortstop Samantha Derickson reached on an error that allowed Andrews to score. Senior pitcher Sarah DeStefano followed with a two-RBI single as Holtje and Szor raced home while sophomore first baseman Kaley Hoffman hit an infield RBI single to score Derickson. Senior pinch hitter Madison Berning ripped an RBI single to bring DeStefano across the plate while Andrews finished the inning with an RBI single to score Hoffman
- DeStefano started in the circle, and she scattered three hits and struck out four batters while not allowing a walk for her second shutout of the season and 16th of her career
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning to open the scoring in the second contest. Hoffman led off with a double and moved to third on a single from sophomore catcher Sydney Scarpato. Morgan connected on an RBI groundout to push Hoffman across the plate for the only run of the contest
- Holtje made the start in the circle, and she eight strikeouts and no walks to go with eight strikeouts for her second shutout of the spring
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian recorded 23 hits on the day with Andrews going 5-for-8 with two runs and two RBIs
- Chloros was 4-for-7 on the afternoon with a pair of runs while Holtje also went 4-for-7 with two runs, three RBIs and a double
- Morgan posted a 3-for-6 day with two runs, a double and an RBI while Hoffman added two hits, two runs, a double and an RBI
- Silberman's lone hit was her home run to go with a run and three RBIs while DeStefano contributed a hit, a run and two RBIs
- Derickson registered a hit, a run and an RBI while Berning was 1-for-1 with an RBI
- Scarpato added a hit while Szor scored once
