Greyhounds Shutout York Twice to Sweep Twinbill
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team swept visiting York College of Pennsylvania with a pair of shutouts, winning 2-0 and 8-0 in non-conference action at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened – Game #1
- The Greyhounds scored the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior designated player Marcie Silberman led off the frame with a walk before junior Cassandra Farrell came on to pinch run. After a sacrifice bunt from senior pitcher Sarah DeStefano and a groundout by senior shortstop Samantha Derickson moved Farrell to third, sophomore first baseman Kaley Hoffman connected on an RBI double to score Farrell. Freshman Nicole Giglio pinch ran for Hoffman, and she scored on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Sydney Scarpato
- DeStefano started in the circle, and she scattered three hits while striking out six for her fifth shutout victory of the season
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Hounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior designated player Kyra Holtje hit a two-out single and stole second base before racing home on an RBI single by Silberman
- The Blue & Grey added a run in the bottom of the fourth frame. Derickson and Hoffman had singles before a double play. Junior center fielder Shayla Morgan connected on a single, and an error on the Spartans allowed Hoffman to score
- Moravian pushed home three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the edge to 5-0. Holtje and Silberman had one-out singles before Giglio came into pinch run. DeStefano ripped an RBI single to score Holtje while Giglio raced home when Derickson reached on an error. Later in the inning, junior second baseman Emma Grace Pachkowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Farrell, who had come in to run for DeStefano
- The Greyhounds scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest in a run-rule game. Senior third baseman Sydney Andrews drew a leadoff walk before Holtje ripped an RBI double off the wall in left as Andrews raced around the bases. Holtje stole third before Silberman drew a walk. Junior Madelin Cooper pinch ran for Silberman before DeStefano connected on an RBI single to send Holtje home. Derickson reached on a fielder's choice and Cooper raced home from second with the final run
- Senior Natalie Otto had a pair of strikeouts while allowing just three hits in the shutout win, her first shutout of the season
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian recorded 23 hits in the doubleheader with Hoffman going 4-for-6 with run, a double and an RBI
- Holtje was 4-for-7 with three runs, a double and an RBI while Derickson went 3-for-7 with two RBIs
- DeStefano posted a 3-for-6 day with an RBI while Silberman added two hits and an RBI
- Andrews, Morgan and freshman left fielder Natalie Chloros all had two hits with Andrews scoring once and Morgan collecting an RBI
- Scarpato had one hit and an RBI while Pachkowski drove in a run
- Giglio and Farrell each scored twice while Cooper contributed a run
