The first entry in our second countdown of the summer – the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – is our No. 10 highlight – the footballs squad winning the Cape Charles Bowl.
The Greyhounds reached the postseason for the first time since 2015 when the squad earned one of the two Landmark Conference spots in the Chesapeake Challenge Bowl Series between the Landmark and Old Dominion Athletic Conferences. Moravian headed to Salem, Virginia to face Shenandoah (Va.) University on Saturday, November 23.
The Blue & Grey scored first on a ten-yard pass from senior quarterback Jared Jenkins to graduate student wide receiver Jordan Bingham on a fourth-and-goal play on the Hounds' first possession. Moravian added a two-yard touchdown pass from Jenkins to senior wide receiver Diego Del Castillo and a 13-yard score between the duo to head to the intermission leading 21-0.
Late in the third quarter, Jenkins connected on a five-yard touchdown pass with sophomore wide receiver Avery Koser to make the score 28-7. Just before the third quarter ended, Jenkins hit Bingham with a 45-yard touchdown strike to extend the edge to 35-7. Shenandoah added a score in the fourth quarter to set the final at 35-14.
Moravian's defense came up with four interceptions in the game including two by sophomore defensive back Aidan Lane and one each by sophomore defensive backs Cleveland Harding Jr. and Antonio Bowen with Bowen returning his pick 81 yards.
Jenkins was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the contest after completing 27-of-37 passes for 234 yards and five touchdowns, and he ran for 75 yards on 11 carries.
The victory was the program's fourth postseason win and first since winning the 2010 ECAC Division III Southeast Bowl.
