Six Greyhounds Named to College Sports Communicators Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University graduate students Kyle Weiss, senior Bryan Kerchner, juniors Gavin Hefferan and Mael Tshiyonga and sophomores Chris Downey and Riley Trigo have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men’s Track & Field and Cross Country Team for NCAA Division III schools.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University graduate students Kyle Weiss, senior Bryan Kerchner, juniors Gavin Hefferan and Mael Tshiyonga and sophomores Chris Downey and Riley Trigo have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Track & Field and Cross Country Team for NCAA Division III schools.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student and be ranked in the top 50 in the school's region in a track event or have finished in the top 50 at the NCAA Division III cross country regional for the program.
By making the All-District Team, the group is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Tuesday, July 14. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.
Weiss, who finished his Master's in Education this spring with 4.00 grade-point average after earning a secondary education and history degree and a 3.69 grade-point average as an undergraduate, was second in the Metro Region in the 400-meter dash indoors in 50.66 seconds, fifth in the 4x400-meter relay indoors in 3:21.33, 19th in the long jump outdoors at 6.79 meters (22-3.5), 19th in the 400-meter dash outdoors in 49.51 seconds, 36th in the 200-meter dash outdoors in 22.30 seconds, fourth in the 4x400-meter relay outdoors in 41.82 seconds and eighth in the 4x100-meter relay outdoors in 3:17.77. Weiss won the 2026 Landmark Conference Championship outdoors in the long jump, and he was a five-time Landmark All-Conference honoree, making the First Team once, the Second Team three times and the Honorable Mention squad twice. Weiss was honored as the 2026 Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar-Athlete, and he compete in five sports at Moravian – men's soccer and men's lacrosse for four seasons each, three seasons on the indoor track & field squad and one year each on the football and outdoor track & field teams. Weiss was a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List six times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, an eight-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and three-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. Weiss is also a seven-time member if the CSC Academic All-District, making the Men's Soccer Team three times, the Men's At-Large Team three times while playing lacrosse, and now the Men's Track & Field and Cross Country Team.
Kerchner, a health sciences major with a 3.51 grade-point average, was fourth in the 5,000-meter run indoors in 14:51.45, seventh in the mile run indoors in 4:13.49, 16th in the 3,000-meter run indoors in 8:37.84, 18th in the 800-meter run indoors in 1:57.04, eighth in the 1,500-meter run outdoors in 3:56.01, 16th in the 5,000-meter run outdoors in 14:57.16, 31st in the 800-meter run outdoors in 1:56.70 and tenth in the Metro Region Cross Country Championships in 24:51.5 to earn All-Region honors. Kerchner was third at the Landmark Conference Cross Country Championships to earn Landmark All-Conference First Team accolades, and he is a three-time member of the Landmark All-Conference First Team to go along with one selection to the Second Team and three selections to the Honorable Mention squad. Kerchner was honored as the 2025 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete. Kerchner has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List four times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and a three-time of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Hefferan, a health sciences/pre-athletic training major with a 3.93 grade-point average, was second in the Metro Region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase outdoors in 9:28.36, eighth in the 5,000-meter run outdoors in 14:48.84, 44th in the 10,000-meter run outdoors in 35:37.33, eighth in the 3,000-meter run indoors in 8:33.19, eighth in the 5,000-merer run indoors in 14:54.77, 27th in the mile run indoors in 4:21.13 and sixth in the Metro Region Cross Country Championships in 24:45.8 to earn All-Region honors. Hefferan finished 104th in the 2025 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, and he is an eight-time Landmark All-Conference honoree, making the First Team three times, twice in cross country, the Second Team twice and the Honorable Mention squad three times. Hefferan has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List six times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Tshiyonga, a computer science major with a minor in finance and a 3.57 grade-point average, was 16th in the Metro Region in the 110-meter high hurdles outdoors in 15.18 seconds, 38th in the 400-meter hurdles outdoors in 58.82 seconds and 21st in the 60-meter hurdles indoors in 8.56 seconds. Tshiyonga made the 2026 Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention squad in the 110-meter high hurdles outdoors. Tshiyonga has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List six times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Trigo, a computer science major with minors in business management and mathematics to go with a 3.97 grade-point average, was 15th in the Metro Region in the 5,000-meter run indoors in 15:21.26, 36th in the 3,000-meter run indoors in 8:53.14, 16th in the 10,000-meter run outdoors in 32:31.73, 31st in the 5,000-meter run outdoors at 15:26.17 and 43rd in the 1,500-meter run outdoors at 4:07.86. Trigo earned a spot on the 2025 Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention squad in cross country. Trigo has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List four times, a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll and a member of the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
Downey, an accounting major with minors in forensic auditing and education to go with a 3.80 grade-point average, was 24th in the Metro Region in the javelin at 50.46 meters (165-7). Downey has been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List four times and is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll.
